The first mention of the Boqueria market dates from 1217. It was born as a travelling market, near the old city gate to sell meat. From December 1470 a pig market was held at this site. At the beginning, the market had no official status, it was just an extension of the Plaça Nova market.

In 1914 the new market with the metal roof was inaugurated. In the 20th century the market modernized at a sanitary, aesthetic, and decorative level. Over the years, La Boqueria has become the most representative market in Barcelona and one of the city’s most famous tourist landmarks.

Perfectly located, right off La Rambla, the most famous and crowded pedestrian street in the city, La Boqueria attracts thousands of visitors every day. Exotic fruits, vegetables, fish, sea food, meat, herbs, eggs, chocolate, breads and pastries, restaurants, farmers’ shops, wine, natural juices and even a Greek and an Italian hand made pasta, you can find them all at La Boqueria.

The stalls charm your eyes and the flavours awaken your senses. The specific autumn fruits and vegetables are already on the stalls. Colourful, delicious, tasty, breath taking, you want to try them all. Now in November, the star of the market is the famous and rare white truffle. Known as “white gold“, the truffle is one of the most expensive products from the market. Despite its extremely high price the truffle is appreciated by connoisseurs.

The salesmen are friendly, the atmosphere is unique and the mixture of flavours makes you want to taste everythig. While you are in Barcelona, don’t miss the chance to explore La Boqueria and taste the autumn flavours in a spanish way.

Sunny, beautiful days, temperatures around 20° C, warm nights. This is the perfect time to visit Barcelona. It is not as hot as during the summer and also not as crowded as in the previous months.

Maybe you won’t get a great sun tan, but you still can relax on the beach reading a good book and enjoing the sun shine. If you are feeling brave enough you can swim in the sea or try surfing as the waves are bigger now.

The magic fountains are still dancing for you every Friday and Saturday night in Placa Espana. It is much easier to get inside Sagrada Familia, as the queue is much smaller now. The trip up to Tibidabo is more pleasant than in the hot summer days. The Montjuic castle is still amazing under the autumn sun shines.

Take your time and admire Gaudi’s work while having a pleasant walk through Parc Guell. Choose a nice restaurant and taste the real paella and feel the Spanish passion with a glass of sangria.

After a day in town there is nothing better then a relaxing sleep in our amazing holiday apartments.

Founded in 1969, Can Paixano, or La Xampanyeria as everyone knows it, after so many years still keeps the atmosphere of a traditional sailor’s tavern. Nothing fancy, nothing fashionable, just great, tasty food, sparkling wines and friendly old bar ambiance.

It’s the perfect place to enjoy a wide variety of sandwiches and tapas as an excuse to drink the tasty rose cava. One glass of cava is 90 cents. Then food is also very cheap but extremely tasty.

Order “el plato combinado” and enjoy the taste of different types of traditional sausages for less then 4 euros. Also a “must try” is the beef jamon and the salted sardines. They also serve a big variety of sandwiches at excellent prices. It is also possible to purchase bottles of cava, from the shop at the back of the bar, for only 2.60 euros.

The bar is located on Carrer de la Reina Cristina 7, in Barceloneta . It is open from Monday to Saturday 09:00 – 22:30 and Sunday from 09:00 to 13:00. The bar is very crowded all the time. There are no seats so keep in mind that you will be eating standing at the bar. The only drink that they serve is cava and they don’t serve you alcohol unless you eat something.

Enjoy a typical spanish old bar atmosphere, taste great food and sparkling wine at unbeatable prices.

Enjoy!

Iglesia de San Vicente is the oldest standing house of worship in the city, and Catedral del Buen Pastor was built in neo-gotic style. Noteworthy are the buildings of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa (inspired by the building of the Paris Opera), the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, the Post Office and the Cultural Center Koldo Mitxelena, located in the same place, or the City Hall (former Casino). In the old part are noteworthy San Telmo Museum, the Church of Santa Maria and the parish of San Vicente. Near the mouth of the river are the Victoria Eugenia Theatre and the Hotel Maria Cristina, which sets up one of the most attractive monuments of the city. Crossing the river over the bridge of Maria Cristina, the most attractive of the bridges of San Sebastian, are the North Station and purely French style villas located on the riverbank.

One of the main city attractions is its cuisine, and so are the summer festivals (Jazz, Music and Film Fortnight). La Concha Bay, bordered by rail feature, is the touristic symbol of San Sebastian. In the middle of the bay is the pearl of the shell, which is the island of Santa Clara.

Coffee is the sipirt of the Italian life just like ’pasta’ or pizza. You can make your morning coffee at home , in your apartment like this, but what I’m recommend you is to behave like a local, and go out for a coffee!

First of all: there is always time and reason for a coffee. Early in the morning, during breakfast, after breakfast, before work, during work, after lunch , in the afternoon, etc., so there is no exact time for it because any time is good for a coffee! But there is always an amount-difference depending on where you drink it: at the table or at the bar. If you order it to your table, they will charge you 1-2 euros, but if you drink it at the bar, your behavior is just like a real local’s. I recommend you to try this version too, after a not so exhausting sight-seeing, because with a coffee you will have something different and extra.

The variety of Italian coffees are infinite, here,I will try to collect you the most famouse ones. So if you want to order a European espresso, you have to ask for ’caffé’. It’s nothing extra just a simple coffee with sugar. If you order ’caffé macchiato’ you will have an espresso with a little milk in it and cream on the top. ’Cappuccino’ is spread around the world, so I guess I don’t have to explain what it is. ’Caffé latte’ is coffee with milk. ’Orzo’ is a very strong coffee like a double espresso, and during the night before a party they usually put a little Grappa into it.

What you can order with a coffee is a brios, cornetto or biscuit; all these cookies are lovely and unforunately full of sugar, so if you are on a diet ,try to avoid them ( but believe me,being on a diet in Italy is insane and impossible).

Here you can find incredible atmosphere. It’s a bit like not being in Europe anymore. The streets are dirty, the walls emanate a warm and the special atmosphere of hustle and bustle of the locals in the Portuguese capital . Discover Lisbon together!

But before we start, make sure that You didn’t forget to book your well-located apartment! If you did, you can do it now, by clicking here.

Let’s start our tour with one of Lisbon’s symbol, the Torre de Belém. The building used to stand in the middle of the Tagus river, but since the river’s partial dehydration , it is already on the beach. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site (along with the nearby Jerónimos Monastery ) because of the significant role it played in the Portuguese maritime discoveries in the era of the Age of Discoveries . You can go in, and enjoy the breath-taking view from the top.
They began to build the Jerónimos Monostery out of gratitude so that Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route to India. The monastery is one of the most prominent monuments of the Manueline-style architecture (Portuguese late-Gotic) in Lisbon, classified in 1983 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built over 60 years.

The Padrao dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries) is located next to the river Tejo. On the side of the monument, you can find the most important personalities from the Portuguese age of discoveries represented. In addition to the main statute of Henry the Navigator, holding a model of a carrack, on either side of the ramps of the monument are a total of 33 figures. Inside the elevator takes us up to 52 feet.

Enjoy the day, tomorrow, we will continue!

Barcelona and its area are more than just Gaudi houses and beaches! It has a lot of historical places which you should visit during a family holiday. If you are a hiking type family, you will love this one-day trip suggestion, so brogues on, let’s go to Montserrat!

Montserrat is situated 50 km northwest of Barcelona, one Catalunya’s most important shrines. The mountain itself is a massif that towers over the right bank of the Llobregat River, it’s 10 km long and 5 wide. You can reach the place by cable car from Aeri de Montserrat station or by Cremallera (rack railway) from Monistril Villa station, but first you have to take a train ( R5) from the Plaza Espanya. Also you can start hiking from Monistrol station, then you have 3 chooses: the Canals and Water Path ( also known as Montserrat Pilgrimage Path)-it’s a long-distance route- ,Three Quarters short cut- it’s a traditional route from the town of Monistrol- or PR-C 19 route which route was designed by the Club Muntanyenc Monistrolenc to commemorate this local ramblers club’s 50th anniversary.

At Montserrat you will find a sanctuary, a monastery and a basilica which is a monastery’s church. It’s facade, with its carvings of Christ and the 12 Apostoles, dates from 1900, despite its 16th-century plateresque style. Inside you can find La Moreneta ( the Black Virgin), a 12th- century Romanesque wooden sculpture of Mary with Jesus, which has been Catalunya’s patrone since 1881.

Above the monastery you can explore the mountain and the monastery of Santa Cecilia, 15 chapels and hermitages. All you have to do is just take the Funicular de Sant Joan and it will carry you up the first 250 m from the monastery. If still fully with energy and prefer to walk, you can do it: the road past the funicular’s bottom station will lead you its top station in about an hour.

After this day I’m sure your children will sleep as angels in your fully-equipped apartment. Oh! You haven’t booked it yet? You can do it now by clicking here!

Enjoy your day!
